Music Recording App Mac And Windows![]() Transcribe! can respond to various pedals so as to keep your hands free : start and stop playback with your feet! There are many keyboard shortcuts and you can configure these as you like. Loops and positions can be stored and recalled. For instance if you press the half-speed button while playing then playback simply continues, at half speed This means there is no pre-processing or other waiting, the processing is performed on-the-fly while playing and you can instantly hear the effect of changes to EQ etc. These effects all run in "real time" unless your machine is old and slow. Transcribe! offers various audio processing effects (Slowdown, Pitch Change, EQ filtering etc) intended to help with transcribing. The height of the various peaks in the graph indicate the strength of the note above which the peak appears The "spectrum" feature displays the strength of the various pitches in any chord or note you select, in the form of a graph - a wavy line over a piano keyboard graphic. This has the advantage of convenience and of avoiding confusion about which GStreamer version to use with which Transcribe! version. ALSO we now include GStreamer as part of the Transcribe! Mac download. In fact the Intel version will also run on Apple Silicon machines but obviously you get better performance with the Apple Silicon version. Mac: we now have a native build for Apple Silicon (M1 processor) machines, which means you have to choose the right version. We introduced a change in 9.00 which was that maximized transcription windows (e.g. This is helpful if you are using your laptop on battery power, or want to stop the fan running. This doesn't affect the audio or video, it merely reduces the frame rate of screen redrawing, meaning that scrolling of the waveform or movement of the play position indicator will be less smooth. CPU usage while playing is now somewhat less, but you can make it lower still by selecting "Reduced CPU" in Preferences - General. See Preferences - Toolbar for how. By popular request, you can now have whatever speed buttons you want (in the range from 5% to 200%), in the upper toolbar. We can now read "mogg" Ogg Vorbis files (multi track Ogg Vorbis audio). Metronome clicks: fixed a bug which was, in the last version clicks only worked properly when play speed was 100% ! This proved to be unpopular so we have now returned to the old way which is that they stay maximized. New commands MarkerNewSectionCurrent, MarkerNewMeasureCurrent, MarkerNewBeatCurrent which place the new marker at the current point (red triangle) always. It now works on rather more devices, let me know if it doesn't work on yours (if your trackpad does work for pinch & zoom in other applications). Two-finger pinch & zoom on trackpads, for zooming the waveform, previously worked on some combinations of OS and trackpad but not all. Changing the soundtrack in the Sound File Info window now changes the actual soundtrack in the View. Slow-down software is no longer a big deal, Quicktime Player lets you slow down and change pitch for free, but have you ever tried to move to the guitar solo of a song in quicktime? Drag and drop the playhead, hit fastforward, then rewind, however you do it, it is going to take a lot of time. You can then, using keyboard shortcuts, navigate to any section of the song, so that you can quickly move around. You do this by tapping the keyboard to the beat (although I don't use the beat markers, just the section and measure) while listening to the song one time through. The key part of transcribe, which none of the reviewers have mentioned so far, is the ability to create song markers of 3 types: Section, Measure, and Beat. The "Export Text Blocks" command has been renamed as "Export Markers and Text Blocks" and moved from the Text menu to the File menu.I am a guitar teacher, and Transcribe is the best software I have found to learn difficult songs. You will need to program keyboard shortcuts to use these. Also, you can navigate to the next beat, measure, or section marker using three different controls. There are different controls for pausing, whether you want it to go back to the marker, or just pause in place. For example, there is a button that will start playback for as long as it is held down, and when you pick it up, it will return to the marker that it started at (great for figuring out a particularly hard part). There are also controls for many different types of playing/pausing. This isn't a problem once you are up and running with the program, in fact, the whole point of the program is to be able to control the entire transcription process from the keyboard, but it is a pain when you are starting out learning the program. Doesn't have the textured, shaded feel that we come to expect, and uses some pretty funky old-school icons. It is, by modern mac standards, pretty harsh to look at. Now, the one thing that people have complained about so far is the interface. The slow-down quality is quite good. Extremely well thought out design for transcription. In fact, I can't imagine being a musician these days and not having the program. There's a reason you're supposed to say "no" to drugs, because the only way I can imagine that anyone who made a Mac version of Transcribed would had to have been coked out of their mind.I thought that Amazing Slow Downer already had a clunky interface, but Transcribe's interface is just an abomination! It looks like it was ripped from a Windows 95 program, 16x16 pixel icons and all! Everything from the Help menu, the About screen, to the general interface shows a lack and blatant disregard for Mac-oriented design. Highly recommended program for musicians. Also, when contacting the developer, I have talked to a competent, thoughtful, human being, who was very receptive to my input for the program (and even to maybe revamping the interface in the future). I rate the program at 5 stars, because the pros of the problem absolutely outweigh the cons, by far. Not until I opened up the Effects window did I find a way to slow down the song.To add further insult AND injury, they are charging $45 for this? For my needs, this is about $35 too much. I looked through all of the menus, but didn't find anything which signified a simple way to slow down (or speed up) a song. But if you are going to make a Mac application, give it a Mac look-and-feel, not a Windows 95 look-and-feel.As if the general appearance was bad enough, it took me several minutes to even figure out how to slow down a song. Which of the following microsoft office products is not available for mac osI will respect a developer who at least goes out of their way to develop a program for systems other than just Windows.Unless there are some unique features to this program that you NEED to have, I'd say pass on this program for now and look elsewhere. Also, this program is available for Windows, Macintosh, AND Linux.
